Welcome Anglers
Mark Young Outfitters is fortunate to own one of the most pristine stretches of Rainbow and Brown trout habitat in the state of Montana along the Sun River. The Sun (as locals call it) flows out of the Rocky Mountain Front and runs through approximately 10 miles of our family operated ranch, the Flying Shit House Ranch. Book a trip in April through September with one of our guides or do-it-yourself access is available. Our knowledgeable fly-fishing guides welcome anglers with any experience level, and will show you the best the Sun has to offer. In addition to our private access to the Sun River, we are excited to offer small stream and creek (including the larger Elk Creek) access to any guests that might be interested! Then relax at the Lodge and guest quarters near Augusta in the evening.
We are a fourth-generation family operated cattle ranch located at the base of the Rocky Mountain Front. It surrounds the quaint town of Augusta where several small antique shops, family friendly bars, a local grocery store, and gas station gladly welcome all travelers.
The original ranch was purchased in 1944 by Mark Young’s grandparents Lester and Bertha Young, along with the purchase came the very original Flying Shit House brand which we still use to mark our angus cattle today! Cattle and crops are our main source of income and we are blessed to continue to run the operation as a family. Mark and Julie are now the “Old” Youngs and their 3 “kids” Chase (Emilee), Rhett (Hailey), and Britta (Hunter) Ritter and their growing families get to call the ranch home. Mark Young Outfitters is a part of our operation taking clients hunting Whitetail, Mule Deer and Antelope on this private ground. A few years back we started also guiding fisherman on the Sun River, Elk Creek, Willow Creek and private ponds that meander thru the ranch, catching Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout.
Our family is what sets us apart from other hunting and fishing operations. When you book a trip with us, you will also get to see and be a part of the Old West ranch lifestyle that helps feed our world. A day in the life on the ranch entails moving cows, primarily on horseback, calving out and raising black angus cattle, planting and irrigating crops, haying alfalfa, harvesting barley, and spending time in the many rivers, lakes, and stunning nearby mountains. At the end of the day hang your hat in the guest quarters which was built around 1890’s and has been refurbished exposing the original logs.
