1) KATANA. Overall length: 36". Blade length: 27 1/8". Blade has a straight hamon with a copper habaki. Classic four cherry blossom, gilded brass tsuba with one seppa below and two above. The fuchi is present; however, no other parts of the tsuka are intact. The nakago has a single mekugi-ana and a 7-character signature on one side with a 5-character signature on the other. Painted iron saya with gilded brass gunto; however, the throat is missing. CONDITION: blade has a good polish but could use a professional cleaning. Parts that are present show light to moderate wear. 2) WAKIZASHI. Overall length: 32 1/2". Blade length: 23 1/8". Blade has a light, irregular hamon. Iron tsuba with gold inlays. Nakago has a single mekugi-ana with a 6-character signature on one side. There is no tsuka or seppa. Saya is wood with an enameled finish, showing flecks of mother of pearl. CONDITION: the blade shows spots of oxidation and some irregularity to the ha. Tsuba and nakago have deep oxidation with pitting. Saya shows overall moderate wear. 3) WAKIZASHI. Overall length: 30 3/4". Blade length: 21". No hamon is discernible. There is a copper habaki and a plain iron tsuba. Nakago has three mekugi-ana, indicating the likelihood of a reused ancestral blade. The nakago has a 5-character signature on one side. There is no tsuka or seppa. Saya is black enameled wood. CONDITION: blade has a gray patina with heavy discoloration. There are numerous nicks to the ha. Tsuba and nakago show oxidation. 4) WAKIZASHI. Overall length: 29 1/2". Blade length: 22 1/8". Unusually heavy blade has an irregular hamon, with a dragon climbing a spear chiseled into the blade. Copper habaki with the number "336348" engraved upon it with an autopen. Blackened brass tsuba with intricate foliate motifs. There is one seppa below and one above, along with a beautifully decorated fuchi. Nakago has a single mekugi-ana and shows a 6-character signature on one side. There is no tsuka. Saya is black enameled wood. CONDITION: blade has a nice polish but could use some cleaning. Tsuba and fuchi show light wear. Saya shows moderate wear. (02-23218-3/BF). $800-1,200.
