OFFICER’S MODEL. Cal. 45-70. S# 1885. Bbl. 26" fitted w/ Buffington rear sight has Beech type folding front dovetailed through muzzle end. Top rear of bbl. engraved “SINGALLTON”. Action w/ breech block marked “U S MODEL 1884” is serial numbered “1885” at rear. Lock marked “U S SPRINGFIELD” w/ eagle. These major metal parts including buttplate w/ trap engraved w/ lg. scroll resembling that done on the original & quite rare, Model 1875 Officers rifle. Plain American walnut stock has rather coarse checkering at grip & forend. Top of stock is fitted w/ folding tang sight. Fancy pattern pewter tip has no provision for cleaning rod. WEIGHT: 8 lbs. 10 oz. CONDITION: very good, retaining a considerable amount of original blue. All areas where engraving has been added were bright polished & have now toned to mottled silver. Bore is fine, shiny. Mechanically good. Stock has old oil refinish. This is a good looking rifle w/ work that appears to have been done many years ago. (01-17391/MGM94). ANTIQUE. $6,000-8,000.
