Model 1860 U.S. Officers sword, scabbard, hanger and knot, inscribed “Presented to Capt. Thomas Grant/by General J.C. Kelton Garrison #30/R.A. and N. Union, Fort Sill, OK. T.”; etched blade, brass guard & mounts,wire wrapped rayskin grip; in overall very good to near fine condition. General Kelton had a long and distinguished military beginning with his graduation from the U.S. Military Academy on July 1, 1851. He servedin the U.S. 6th Infantry and during the Civil War was commissioned into the Adjutant General’s Dept., into Field and Staff of the MO. 9th Infantry and into the U.S. Volunteers Aide-de-Camp. He then served for a time onthe Western Frontier. He was Brevetted Brigadier General on March 13, 1865, retired from the Army on June 24, 1892 and died July 15, 1893.
