Rare and Genuine 19th Century U.S. Patent Office Model ''Cap Setter/Extractor'', Patent No. 139674 granted to E.S. Holmes on June 10, 1873, consisting of a 5'' tall and 4.75'' wide (including adjustable thumb-screw) steel device having a hinged arm for compressing a primer cap into a metallic cartridge, and a varnished wooden dowel (marked ''A1'') having a .25''x.25'' turned area at one end, and a steel pin fitted into a larger turned area at the other end (dowel piece fits onto front of steel tool), both pieces held together by a faded red ribbon and wire-attached to a 3'' x 3.125'' manila card tag reading ''No. 139674/E.S. Holmes/Cap Setting and Extracting Device/Patented June 10th/1873/Cartridge Implement'', within an aged plastic holder. Condition to all is very good showing genuine age. Steel tool with mild rusting. 1873 tag is rather fragile, as expected, but correct and complete. Est.: $150-$300.
