A late 19th, Early 20th Century Japanese Personal Tonto. This type of knife was carried by Japanese citizens for personal protection. The kata-kirha-zukur shaped blade length from notch in copper habaki and is 8.25" with total Length: 13.5". The very, very tip is blunted and almost invisible to naked eye. Temper line is not seen and has much old oil, staining and wear. There are three nicks at 3", 4.5" and 7" to blade edge. The tang has one hole and 3 Kanji signed on one side. The handle and scabbard are made of deep red lacquered wood which has been given an impressed random wrinkle pattern, Scabbard two chips along side seam and 1" chip which exposed layer of lighter lacquer. Has metal end cap. The are 3 metal flowers on handle with maybe being an abstract head or skull. Rope is old but not original to tonto. This is very pleasing knife of katana and wakizashi roots.
