1ST BRIGADE COLORADO NATIONAL GUARD GUIDON.
24” x 45” silk & painted swallow tail pennant, circa 1900. The roots of the Colorado national Guard go back to 1861 when two companies were formed to protect the region from Indians. Three infantry and three cavalry regiments were raised during the Civil War with some troops marching south to New Mexico Territory to defeat Confederate troops at Glorieta Pass in 1862. While no specific history has been located for the First Brigade, Colorado National Guard, this guidon style flag with three color bars, representing the combined arms make up of this brigade, was probably a locally produced variant of guidons specifically for state use. CONDITION: good overall, several tears, soiling, frayed tips, overall sound with good paint. (02-17547-50/JS). $100-200.
