1) A seldom seen example of a Civil War period North Carolina Militia Staff Officer's button utilized by Confederate forces. This button was produced in England during the war likely by Smith, Kemp & Wright for Van Wart, Son & Co. & shipped via blockade runner. Albert # NC-3-A. Face depicts a North Carolina state seal w/ "NORTH CAROLINA" above all on a lined field. The reverse reads, "VAN WART . SON & CO.. * ". Full shank. CONDITION: button retains 80% of its original gilded finish & the shank is very, very slightly bent.
2) A fine example of a Civil War period North Carolina Militia button worn by troops serving in the Confederate Army. This button was produced locally by Myers. Albert # NC-8-A. Face depicts a North Carolina state seal w/ "NORTH CAROLINA" above all on a plain field. The reverse has a depressed channel that reads, "S.A.MYERS RICHMOND VA. ". Full straight shank. CONDITION: button retains traces of original gilded finish. (02-17630/BF). $1,600-2,000.
