2 Day New Mexico Trophy Himalayan Highland Bull Yak Hunt for 1 Hunter with Rancho De Chavez
Description:
Have you ever wanted to hunt a Bull Yak? Well now is your chance! This hunt is for One Trophy Bull
Himalayan Highland Yak for 1 Hunter. The hunt will take place in-between November 2022 to March of 2023
on the Famed Rancho De Chavez ranch near Santa Fe, New Mexico. You will arrive early morning at the
ranch, do orientation and sign waivers, sight your gun, if need be, then proceed to the field to hunt & harvest
your Trophy Yak.
Near the Ortiz Mountains of New Mexico reside a large herd of Himalayan Highland Cattle also known as
Himalayan Exotic Yak, Tibetan Bison or the “Grunting Ox”. This classic, old-world appearance is due to their
high, humped shoulders, horse-like tails and long skirts of hair that hang down their sides to the ground. Their
short legs have broad hooves and large dewclaws to help them maneuver over steep mountainous terrain. The
bulls are very large and some attain heights of about 6-7 feet at the shoulder hump and weight up to 2000
pounds.
The Yak is found throughout the Himalayan region of south-central Asia, the Tibetan Plateau and as far north
as Mongolia and the Russian Federation. Yaks are native to the high country and can live easily at elevations
of over 22,000 feet. Their dense coats and thick hides are necessary to protect them from the bitter cold of the
high mountains.
Yak hunts are highly physical, as these animals are generally located on a mountain or at a higher elevation. It
is often a stalk and walk hunt. Your adventure will be a private hunt on a private ranch in New Mexico. The
animal harvested will belong to the hunter in its entirety.
A unique and private ranch retreat awaits you at Rancho de Chavez located just 25 minutes south of Santa Fe,
New Mexico, on the historic Turquoise Trail. Rancho de Chavez is the perfect marriage of rustic charm joined
with inspirations from old Spain. Situated on 15,000 pristine acres, Rancho de Chavez is surrounded by the
majesty of New Mexico. The western views take in the Jemez Mountains, Sandia Mountains and Cabezon
Peak. The eastern views run from the back patio of the ranch hacienda directly to the top of the Ortiz
Mountains where native birds and other wildlife are daily visitors.
The hunt will be with a rifle or muzzleloader of .30 caliber or better. Archery equipment can be used if
arrangements are made ahead of time. Upgrades and additional species available at current price list at time
of hunt; Trophy Class Bison, Cow Bison and Cow Yak
