1) GERMAN\ENGLISH. Overall length 39 3/4". Blade length 32 3/4". An interesting sword that greatly resembles the British M1796 Infantry Officers sword. This example is of decidedly earlier manufacturer likely dating from the 1760’s. These predecessors to the M1796 were popular both in England & Germany with most of the earlier examples being made in Germany. Plain blade with a single wide fuller. Solid brass hilt with a double kidney guard and protruding quillon. Plain knuckle bow ends in a faceted pommel. Brass wire wrap grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray cleaned somewhat mottled appearance. The hilt has a pleasing mustard patina.
2) FRENCH. Overall length 32 1/8". Blade length 26 3/4". A French made short saber of the federal period. Plain blade with a single wide fuller. Brass hilt exhibiting a heavy cross guard with large languets. Relatively plain knuckle bow terminates at a reded pommel. 1 Piece rectangular wood grip with crosshatching on both faces. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray mottled patina. Hilt has a lightly cleaned mustard patina. Grip generally shows light wear. (02-18151-3/BF). $800-1,100.
