1. Cal. 72. NSN. Suhl model 1809 flintlock musket converted to percussion, dated 1818 on buttplate & 41 1/4” bbl., walnut stock has a recessed cheekpiece, brass mounted, trumpet headed ramrod. A fair quantity of these guns was imported at the outbreak of the Civil War mostly to Midwestern states w/ Germanic populations, photographs can be seen especially among Wisconsin troops posed w/ these large 72 caliber arms. CONDITION: very good overall, complete & original, iron has a dark patina, brass has light mustard patina, stock has been sanded, but is sound. Numerous sm. proofs & unit marks are found on stock, buttplate & bbl. Mechanics are fine w/ clean smoothbore. (01-16752/JS). 2. Cal. 65. NSN. European fowler, circa 1790, 54 1/2” overall, 40” 3 stage bbl., brass mounted. Bbl. has floral relief moldings at breech & indiscernible proof mark, lock is lightly engraved, early unsupported serpentine cock, unbridled frizzen, long 5 1/2" early buttplate tang. CONDITION: good overall, iron has brown patina, brass medium mustard patina, stock has hand worn patina & glued repair w/ a lg. 5” thin inset under forward portion of lock. Mechanically fine w/ smooth clean bore. PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Ronald A. Katchuk. (01-16753/JS). BOTH ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
