Finely engraved Hopkins & Allen XL No. 5 spur trigger revolver in .38 rim-fire with a 3” octagon barrel and rosewood grips, S/N 478. Nicely period engraved with Germanic scrolls and foliate borders. Fine original conditionwith 90%-95% original with minor losses and minor natural aging. 1 small area of light rust on back strap and some minor flecks and age spots on the cylinder. The grips are very good plus with most original varnish. Theaction works well with sharp markings and bright bore. Note: sold at Lot #2296 in James Julia fall auction in 2010 and prices realized lists at $6,325. Also cataloger J.R. LaRue lists as factory engraved which isunsubstanciated as it may well be a New York engraver such as L.D.N. and no factory records are available in this early era. (Antique) Est.: $1000-$2000
