BUTTONS.
1) A very good example of a Civil War era Louisiana Militia button utilized by Confederate forces. This button was produced prior to the war by the firm of Steele & Johnson. Albert # LA-7-TYPE. Face depicts a pelican feeding her young on a lined field. The reverse reads, "EXTRA. * QUALITY. * ". Full shank. CONDITION: button retains most of its original gilded finish.
2) A good example of a Civil War era Louisiana Militia button utilized by Confederate forces. This button was produced prior to the war by likely by Scovill. Albert # LA-4-A-1-TYPE. Face depicts a pelican feeding her young on a plain field. The reverse has a blank depressed channel. Full shank. CONDITION: button has a deep mustard patina. Shank is very slightly bent.
3) A scarce example of a Civil War era Louisiana Militia button worn by Confederate forces. This button was produced locally during the war. Albert # LA-8-TYPE. Face depicts a pelican feeding her young on a plain field. The reverse is blank & quite puffy. This is a die variety that I have not encountered before & it does not seem to match exactly in anything in Albert's or Tice's book. Full shank. CONDITION: button has a wonderful, rich mustard patina. (02-17634/BF). $1,700-2,200.
