3 EARLY AMERICAN DRUMS.
1) Drum measures 16 3/4" high x 16 1/2" in diameter. It is an early style drum w/ ropes that go through the rims. Rims are painted red, body of the drum appears to be painted Spanish brown. Ropes appear to be original or early replacements. No interior label can be seen from the vent hole. Heads appear to be original. CONDITION: top head is intact. Bottom head is torn. Ropes show fraying in some areas. Body of the drum has a few veneer losses near the lap seam. Drum has a pleasing patina & visual appeal. 2) Drum measures 16 3/4" high x 16" in diameter. It is an early style drum w/ ropes that go through the rims. Rims are painted red, body of the drum is painted blue. Heads appear to be original. Ropes are replaced. No interior label can be seen from the vent hole. CONDITION: the heads appear to be in original paint. The blue paint on the body of the drum has some age but is likely not original to the drum. Drum is generally quiet solid. 3) Drum measures 14 1/2" high x 16 1/2" in diameter. It is a later style drum w/ metal hooks on the rims & probably dates to the late Civil War or early post war era. Rims are painted w/ a thin 1/2" red stripe. The body of the drum is mostly natural wood but features a painted red, green & white star w/ flourishes around the vent hole. Top head is missing, bottom head is intact. The interior of the drum has a lg. blue label that reads, “Premium Drums Base Drums! FOR BRASS AND MARTIAL BANDS - - - 2 to 3 feet Head SNARE DRUMS Made of Rosewood, Birdseye Maple and Ash. ALSO, BOYS’ DRUMS OF ALL SIZES, KEPT CONSTANTLY ON HAND. Repairing done on short notice. JOHN G. PIKE, MITCHELL ST, NORWICH NEW YORK”. Ropes may be original or early replacements. CONDITION: paint is a bit faded & oxidized but remains attractive. Bottom head is undamaged.
