1) 1759 BRITISH MEDAL (Betts-418) (Eimer-677). This medal celebrates the British victories in American during the French & Indian War period. It depicts George II on the front w/ the British Arms on the reverse along w/ various military victories. CONDITION: this medal has notable wear to the features of George II & the British Arms on the reverse including the virtual erasure of the upside down fleur de lis in the shield. There is green verdigris on the edges & an overall brown patina to the brass. It is possible this medal may be a later restrike & artificially worn & aged. 2) HORATIO GATES MEDAL in silvered bronze. A 20th century copy of the rare & desirable Horatio Gates medal. The front shows General Gates facing left in military attire. The legend reads, “The American Congress to Horatio Gates, the valiant Commander.”. The legend on the reverse reads, “The safety of the Northern Regions secured by the surrender of the enemy received at Saratoga, Oct. 17, 1777.”. The image on the reverse shows Gentleman Johnny Burgoyne surrendering his sword to General Gates. The original design for this medal was taken from the Comitia Americana series engraved in France after the Revolution. CONDITION: medal appears to show handling wear only w/ some tarnish & minor oxidation. 3) SILVER ENGRAVED MASONIC MEDAL. Front of the medal has the Masonic abbreviation, “S.T.K.S.H.T.W.S.” along w/ various Masonic symbols & the motto, “AMOR.HONOR.ET.JUSTITIA.”. The owner’s initials, “JB” are engraved in script at the base of the medal. The reverse of the medal depicts many other Masonic motifs along w/ the words, “SITLUXIT LUX.FUIT” & “WILKES BRE.. LODGE NO.61 PENNA..”. Masonic Lodge NO. 61 of Wilkes-Barre, PA was founded in 1794. This medal likely dated from that period or slightly after. CONDITION: medal shows only light wear. Details remain crisp & sharp. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: small file of research & correspondence concerning Masonic medal & Gates medal.
