1) BAVARIAN. A splendid Bavarian officer’s spike helmet with gilded brass front plate, chin scales, fluted spike, quatrefoil spike base, rear spine, and front visor trim. The correct national and Bavarian officer’s kokarden are on either side of the helmet. The front visor has a green backing, and the rear visor has a red backing. Fine, light brown leather sweatband with 2-piece silk tan liner. CONDITION: body of the helmet is quite solid with a few minor scrapes. Interior is complete. One half of the silk liner is separated. 2) PRUSSIAN. A Prussian enlisted man’s infantry helmet with gilded brass front plate, spike, spike base, rear spine, and front visor trim. The chinstrap studs on either side are iron. The leather chinstrap has brass buckles and brass attachments on the end. The right side of the helmet has an enlisted national kokard, and the right kokard is missing. The interior rear visor is stamped "55" and "R. J. A. X1. w." in a rectangle. Both visors have a brown leather reverse. Partial leather liner. CONDITION: helmet body is solid but has a few scuffs and scrapes. Brass has a rich patina with traces of gilding remaining. Chinstrap is original, as is the single kokard. Liner is 10% complete. 3) GERMAN. A German brass-trimmed enlisted spike helmet with no front plate. The spike, spike base, rear spine, and front visor trim are all brass. The side posts are iron, and there is no chinstrap. Partial liner. CONDITION: this helmet should be considered in relic condition and primarily valued for parts. Leather liner has losses and appears to have been heavily oiled. Both the interior and the exterior show white mold. Brass has a dark patina, and the front of the helmet has extra holes for mounting various plates. (02-22734-6/BF). $1,500-2,000.
