1) NAVY. An excellent example of a hard rubber Confederate Navy peacoat type button manufactured in England during the war and imported via blockade runner. Albert # CS-60-A. Face depicts an anchor superimposed by crossed cannons with "CN" below all with a rope border. The reverse reads, " . COURTNEY & TENNENT . CHARLESTON .S.C (swan) MANTON'S PATENT". 4 Hole sew through. CONDITION: button shows no wear.
2) STAFF. A fine example of a Confederate Staff Officer's button manufactured in England during the war and imported via blockade runner. Albert # CS-36-A2. Face depicts a droop winged eagle surrounded by 11 stars. The reverse reads, "C & J.W. * WARRANTED * ". Full straight shank. CONDITION: button retains much of its original gilded finish.
3) SOUTH CAROLINA. A nice example of a Confederate South Carolina Militia button manufactured in the North before the war but utilized by Confederate forces during the war. Albert # CS-3-A1. Face depicts the State Seal of South Carolina featuring a palmetto tree. The reverse reads RMDC, "WM.H.SMITH & CO * NEW-YORK * ". Full nearly straight shank. CONDITION: button retains 80% of its original silvered finish.
4) VMI. A very nice example of a southern school cadet button manufactured before the war in the North and utilized by Confederate forces during the war. Albert # SU-408. Face depicts Virtus in the center with the words, "SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS" in an arc behind and "CADET" above with "V.M.I." below. The reverse reads, "(eagle) R & W . ROBINSON" in a ribbon. Full straight shank. CONDITION: button retains most of its original gilded finish. The back is very slightly pushed.(02-17716-8/BF). $1,800-2,200.
