1) WWII. Overall length: 39". Blade length: 32 1/4". Plain blade with a single medium fuller. The ricasso is stamped "WMW WAFFEN". Gilded, white metal hilt with an eagle & party symbol adorning the crossguard & languet. Oak leaf embellished knuckle bow, ferrule, pommel, and backstrap. Black composite grip with aluminum wire wrap. Black enameled scabbard. CONDITION: very light wear overall. 2) WWI. Overall length: 38 1/2". Blade length: 31 1/2". Blade has a single medium fuller and is unmarked. Gilded brass hilt with crossed cannons on the front languet indicating an artillery officer. Lion head quillon with oak leaf embellished knuckle bow, backstrap & ferrule. Large lion head pommel with red faceted eyes. Black composite grip with silver wire wrap. Black enameled scabbard with leather hanger. CONDITION: sword shows very light wear overall. Hanger is quite dry and a bit brittle. 3) WWI. Overall length: 36 1/4". Blade length: 29 5/8". Plain blade has a single medium fuller and is stamped "B." on the ricasso. Gilded brass hilt with a dog head quillon and crossed sabers on the languet. Oak leaf embellished knuckle bow, ferrule & backstrap. Lion head pommel with red cabochon eyes. Black composite grip with aluminum wire wrap. Black enameled scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows very light wear. Hilt does show oxidation to the surface with some loss of gilding. Scabbard has light overall wear and was possibly repainted. 4) WWI. Overall length: 36 1/2". Blade length: 30 3/4". Blade has a single narrow fuller and is engraved on a 4 1/2" panel on both sides with a foliate motif and the words "In Treue Fest". The sword is stamped at the ricasso with 2 opposing squirrels. Plain plated metal hilt with black composite grip. Black enamel iron scabbard. CONDITION: sword shows very light overall wear. Scabbard shows light to moderate wear. PROVENANCE: From the estate collection of Thomas J. Mulligan. (02-19734-6/BF). $900-1,300.
