4 WWII GERMAN ARMY HELMETS.
1) M1940. This helmet has been covered in tan camouflage paint of the period likely for Afrika Korps use. The consignor states they were all collected by Robert Wiles Cook, an officer in the US Army during WWII. He was first stationed in Hawaii where he witnessed the attack on Pearl Harbor, and then in North Africa during that campaign. He collected the helmets on the battlefields while he was in Africa. The left side has a ghost of a decal remaining. The inside rear of the helmet is stamped, “173”. The left inner side is stamped, “Q64”. There is no liner but the band & chinstrap are present. CONDITION: approx. 50% of the tan finish remains. The band is a bit bent. The inside shows areas of oxidation. 2) M1940. There are 3 lg. dents in the crown of the helmet. There is significant oxidation to the inside of the helmet. Liner & chinstrap are complete but very dry. 3) M1940. A single decal Luftwaffe helmet w/ a dark blue/black finish. There is a single Luftwaffe decal on the left side. The inside rear of the helmet is stamped, “4194”. The left inner side is stamped, “ET66”. Full liner & chinstrap. CONDITION: approx. 40% of the finish remains. Approx. 30% of the decal remains. There is significant oxidation to the inside of the helmet. Liner & chinstrap are complete but very dry & show insect damage. 4) M1942. A single decal Army helmet w/ dark gray/green finish. There is a single Army decal on the left side. The inside reaer of the helmet is stamped, “1606”. The left inner side is stamped, “ET64”. No liner, chinstrap or band. The helmet appears to have been struck in the front by an artillery shell or lg. chunk of shrapnel. CONDITION: helmet retains approx. 70% finish. Decal is about 85%. As stated the helmet has been struck by an artillery shell or shrapnel. (02-15052-1(4)/BF). $1,000-1,500.
