Whatshan Guides and Outfitters is owned and operated by Ken and Lorette Robins. For over 25 years, hunting outfitter Ken Robins has dedicated all his efforts to the outfitting industry and his guiding business. This has been a family-run operation since 1983 and their son Matt has followed his father’s footsteps and spends a majority of his time guiding hunters from around the globe. Whatshan Guides and Outfitters has the exclusive right to guide within their 1600 square mile guide area in the West Kootenays. These hunts are team work between hunter and hounds. Ken usually take one hunter at a time unless you and your hunting partner want to hunt cats at the same time. The Robin’s can arrange the hunts to custom fit everyone.
These hunts are conducted from their home where they have a private cabin with washroom and shower. They use 4x4 trucks and snowmobiles to hunt these cats along many logging roads located throughout the territory. Usually there are several of guides out scouting for cats prior to hunters’ arrival. They have some very large bobcats averaging 30 to 40 pounds. This hunt can be upgraded to include an opportunity for a cougar for $3,500 USD. Fees not included are licences, tags, royalties, and Wildlife Conservation Fund. Airport pick-up and drop-off can be arranged for $200. Hotel accommodations before and after the hunt are also not included. Additional hunters can join for $8,500 USD and a non-hunting companion for $200 per day.
