Black bears are plentiful in the hunting territory owned by guide outfitter Doug McMann of Skinner Creek Hunts. Located in Tatlayoko Lake this spectacular valley is a critical link between the rainforests of the Pacific Coast and the dry, desert-like conditions of the Central Interior. Wide-ranging carnivores — grizzly bears, black bears, cougars and grey wolves — traverse its length. These black bears grow large by feasting on berries, rancher’s clover and fish. The long, hard winters mean bears have thick and beautiful coats. Doug has trained his hounds to track for black bears. This 6-day trip includes provisions for 2 hunters including cozy cabin accommodations and spectacular meals. This hunt will utilize Doug’s kennel of expert hounds to track the bears.
For $750 USD, you can bring a additional non-hunting companion. Horseback riding with Julie around the many trails in the area on one of the McMann’s many horses who accommodate any skill level. These are some of the most beautiful and secluded trails in British Columbia, and they all leave right from the ranch. Tack and helmets are provided, recommend you bring your own boots and gear for riding in. You will get dusty on the trails.
You will love the hospitality and comfort offered at Skinner Creek’s picturesque lodge. Located a scenic 3 hours west of Williams Lake your approach Talta Lake and make a left at the sign along a dirt road into the heart of the valley. For a fee, Skinner Creek Outfitters can pick you up from the airport in Williams Lake, or you can drive yourself right to the ranch. Licences, tags, royalties, CITES, and HPF are not included.
