A RARE NAPOLEONIC WAR & LATER 5 AWARD RIBBON BAR

ATTRIBUTED TO FRIEDRICH HEINRICH VON FRANKENBERG UND PROSCHLITZ ALONG WITH A 6 AWARD FRANCO-PRUSSIAN ERA RIBBON BAR.
1) This very early medal bar consists of an 1813 Iron Cross 2nd Class measuring 42.96mm x 46.99mm which includes the integral ring with a period repair, an 1813-1814 Campaign medal in bronze made from captured cannon, the Hohenzollern Commemorative Medal for Combatants 1848-1849, the Prussian 25 Year Long Service Cross for Officers & the Russian Order of Saint Vladimir in gold 4th Class with bow on ribbon denoting bravery. A truly wonderful early Prussian medal bar. Friedrich Heinrich von Frankenberg und Proschlitz was born in 1791 in what is now present day Berlin. After joining the Prussian Army, he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in 1809 & subsequently was promoted to 1st Lieutenant 4 years later while serving in the Brandenburg Artillery Brigade. In 1814 he transferred to the Guard Artillery Brigade where he was promoted to Captain in 1816. In early 1817 he was serving on the staff of the General Inspector of Artillery, Prince August of Prussia, where he was advanced to Adjutant that same year. He was promoted to Major in 1826 & served from 1827 to 1841 as Commander of the Guard Artillery Brigade. In 1841, now a Colonel, he took command of the 8th Artillery Brigade. In 1844, he was promoted to Inspector of the 1st Artillery & his final promotion during active service came in 1847 when he was advanced to Major General. This fine & long serving officer retired in 1851 & received a promotion to Lieutenant General upon his retirement from active service. CONDITION: ribbons all show minor wear & some minor staining. Medals generally show tarnish & patina commensurate with age. The suspension ring on the Iron Cross has a period repair. There is some enamel wear & loss to the St. Vladimir Order due to rubbing on other medals.
2) This fine late 19th century Prussian 6 award medal bar consists of the Prussian Cross of Merit in gold with silver center, the Prussian Cross of General Honor in silver with gold center, the Prussian General Honor medal in solid silver, the Prussian 25 Year Long Service Cross, the Prussian 1870-71 War Commemorative medal made from captured cannons with 3 bars that read, “BEAUMONT”, “SUDAN” & “PARIS” & the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial medal. CONDITION: ribbons show very minor wear but some soiling. Medals all have appropriate finish & tarnish. PROVENANCE: Lifetime Collection of Dennis Ottaway. (02-16026/BF). $3,000-4,000.
