REMINGTON DBL. SHOTGUN IN A SUPERB STATE OF PRESERVATION. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 114361. Mfg. 1899. Bbls. 30". The "D" grade was near the top of Remington's offerings of their very popular model 1894 shotgun. With ejectors it retailed for $155 in 1897 & could be had w/ custom stock dimensions, etc. at no extra charge. This gun has 30" bbls. of dramatic Legia P. pattern Damascus, finished in black & white. Bbls. fitted w/ slightly raised flat matted rib & tops engraved "REMINGTON ARMS CO" & "ILION. N.Y. U.S.A.". Bbl. flats stamped w/ S#. Bottoms of lumps stamped "34" & "712" on front portion & w/ pellet counts "228" & "185" on rear. Bottoms of bbls. stamped "III", "D", & "P". Case hardened 1894 type boxlock action has all correct markings on watert able. It features automatic safety ("SAFE" relief engraved), pivoting 3rd fastener & blued dbl. triggers. Action engraved in early "D" style w/ 80% coverage nicely cut medium scroll engraving framing bird scenes on sides. A duck flies over pond on left & a grouse that's perched on a branch on right. "REMINGTON ARMS CO" is in arched device over each scene. This gun is illustrated & described on pages 162 & 163 of "Remington Double Shotguns" by Charles G. Semmer. Fluted horn capped pistol grip buttstock of very nicely marbled & attractive fiddle figured European walnut measures 15" over original serrated horn buttplate. Stock features checkered side panels w/ classic Remington high grade arrow drop points, multi point pattern checkering w/ line borders at grip & a vacant silver oval on toeline. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson type release. Checkering is done w/ attractive contrast of widely spaced diamonds at front & w/ very closely spaced diamonds at rear separated by ribbons. MEASUREMENTS: BARRELS: Bore diameter: Right .729", Left .734". Restriction: Right 0 (CYL), Left .012" (Light MOD) (Exactly as pellet counts on bbls. indicate). Min. Wall Thickness: Right .030", Left .031". STOCK: LOP: 15". DAC: 1 5/8". DAH: 2 3/4". Cast: 0. WEIGHT: 8 lbs. flat. CONDITION: exceptionally fine. Bbls. retaining approx. 95% extremely attractive damascus finish, thinning a bit from hand wear above forend. Action retains approx. 80% original case hardening color, silvering on fences, sharp edges & on bottom. Top lever & trigger guard appear to be reblued over some light frosting. Stocks retain well over 90% of their original varnish finish w/ a few minor marks on butt w/ some deeper ones on forend which shows the most wear. There is a very slight old crack on left side of forend near iron. Bores are extremely fine, bright & shiny. DANGER! left bbl. fires when safety is put off, NEEDS ATTENTION.
