A Superb Shinto Hizen Tachi Signed Hizen Saga ju Masahiro and Dated. The signature has been pronounced genuine by the noted authority Robert Benson and is here guaranteed to be the work of the great Shinto master, sho dai (firstgeneration) Masahiro. The blade is in virtually mint condition having been little polished and is free of flaws. The temper line is characteristic 1st Masahiro of midare with ash, yo, sunagashi, and kinsuji. The length is a perfect 28 and 3/8inches from tip to the base notch. The tang is ubu (unaltered) with one hole and is pristine with the lovely russet color from nearly 400 years of careful preservation. The blade is wide and without defect and retains a splendid 19th century polish which reveals all the beauty present in this fantastic sword. The Saga signature is rare and highly desirable making this blade an excellent candidate for Juyo shinsa following which the value would be in the six figures. It is only the second almost perfect Japanese sword the cataloger has seen in 50 years the other being a Juyo Muramasa belonging to the Indonesian billionaire, Yani Haryanto.
