Heavy BBL full stock percussion plains rifle by Wuerflein of Philadelphia. Made for Chas Curry (San Francisco, CA). 54 CAL rifled with heavy octagon 32" BBL, measuring 1-1/4" across the center. BBL secured by 3 keys and rifle is 49" overall. Brass patchbox in Philadelphia style with plain brass mounts. Dark uncleaned black to brown patina w/ good edges and clear markings. Large buckhorn rear sight w/ blade front. Stock shows large repair to toe and above the lock on the right side. Nipple beaten down from much firing and action works only when trigger is set. From Larry Shelton Estate who wrote "the book" on California gunsmiths. This one headed west with the 49ers and gold seekers undoubtedly.
