GRADE DOUBLE SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 Ga. S# 449. The 30" bbls. w/ matted rib are marked "Krupp Fluid Steel Made By" "A. H. Fox Gun Co. Phila. PA" on tops. Case hardened action is engraved w/ wavy borders & some sm. bursts of scroll. "AINSLEY H FOX" is on each side. Rnd. knob pistol grip buttstock of lightly figured European walnut measures 14" over serrated hard rubber buttplate. Side panels are checkered & point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching splinter forend has Deeley type release. Gun has had left side of action area milled out to reveal internal features & their operation. Bottom of trigger plate is also cut away showing sear engagement w/ hammers. A cut in stock shows operation of safety. Gun can probably still be fired (at least the right bbl.) as rotary bolting system & bbls. have not been compromised. CONDITION: Bbls. retaining approx. 80% of what appears to be original blue. Action w/ traces of case hardening color has been cleaned to pewter gray. Stocks show considerable use & wear w/ a good scattering of marks & dings in their original oil finish. Checkering is somewhat worn. Milling cuts have been made through original finish w/ wear w/ left side panel checkering running into milled opening. Left side of action has remnants of engraving visible. Bores are bright & shiny. Action is tight. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Kenneth Horn (Grandson of JC Higgins). (22-408/MGM).
