PERCUSSION PISTOL CARBINE WITH DETACHABLE STOCK. Cal. 58. NSN. This is a fine example of the unique & popular martial Civil War era pistol carbine. Conforms w/ other examples w/ rifled 12" rnd. to oct. bbl. marked at left breech "V/P" over eagle's head & dated "1855" on tang forward of folding 3 position 2 leaf sight. Lock marked on primer door w/ spread winged eagle & "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" in front of lock & dated "1855" behind the hammer. Walnut stock has inspector cartouche opposite lock, brass mountings on pistol & stock. Buttplate surcharged “US”. CONDITION: overall very good, markings all discernible. Bbl. & lock have gray/bright patina overall w/ staining & pin prick pitting. Adj. 2 leaf rear sight complete w/ good markings. Brass mountings on pistol & stock have medium mustard patina. Walnut stock on pistol is sound, though lg. hairline on wrist left side of pistol, refinished & varnished, inspector cartouche seen in outline only. Buttstock is sound w/ cosmetic storage dings & dents. Assembly number on stock is “12” & “15” on pistol. Mechanics are crisp including Maynard tape devise w/ well discerned rifling in bore.
