We do our Sitka Blacktail Deer hunts on Prince of Wales Island during the month on November to take advantage of the rut. Hunting techniques range from cruising the beaches at low tide to hiking timbered ridges calling at intervals. In the perfect world, our handmade Deer calls will pull a doe in with a buck on her heels. We are in a 4 buck area, however there has been a recent change that allows for the harvest of only 2 on federal lands and 2 on state lands. The entire island is USFS land which falls under the 2 Deer limit so our goal on this hunt is 2 bucks. Accommodations on this hunt are in private staterooms that are situated seperat from the main house aboard our 70ft custom built charter vessel. Each room boasts a queen bed and single bunk as well as their own private bathroom including shower! We carry 1400 gallons of fresh water, so showers are plentiful but still limited to a certain extent. We try and limit our take to mature bucks with branched antlers, however there are some big mature bucks that only will ever be big 2 points or are regressed bucks that had bigger racks at one point. This is a tough hunt in thick country and we are hardly afforded a conventional shot opportunity. We need to be ready to take close range shots in the neck as this can be the only shot we get due to the thick country these Deer live in. If you're up for the challenge and don't mind getting wet this is one of our most unique hunts and one of my favorite!
