A carefully managed big game species, Alberta is home to some of the biggest pronghorn in North America. Over the years, many Alberta pronghorn antelope have ranked high in the Boone & Crockett and Pope & Young record books, including a 90-inch buck taken in the last 10 years and 10 more that scored over 85. Our outfitters employ a range of hunting strategies, including spot-and-stalk, decoying, and blinds at water holes. Bowhunters of pronghorn in Alberta find the greatest success decoying, which is a thrilling and highly interactive method of hunting, and an attractive strategy to those hoping to avoid long hot sits over waterholes. Hunters can expect to see very large numbers of pronghorn on any given day, among other game. Since Alberta’s pronghorn inhabit many of our best-known whitetail and mule deer areas, presenting an excellent opportunity for combination hunts, depending on your timing and outfitter of choice. In some Wildlife Management Units (WMUs), the pronghorn season is a very limited window of opportunity; with this Minister’s Special License (MSL), not only you can start earlier and hunt later than other pronghorn hunters, but you can also hunt any management unit in which a pronghorn season exists with any weapon, for a full 365 days.

LICENSE CONDITIONS: The holder of this Trophy Antelope Minister’s Special License (MSL) is authorized to hunt one Trophy Antelope, in accordance with all provisions of the Wildlife Act and Wildlife Regulation unless exempted in the conditions below.
● This special license is valid from August 25, 2025, to August 24, 2026, in any Wildlife Management Unit (WMU) where an antelope hunting season is identified in the current Alberta Guide to Hunting Regulations.
● This license may be held by hunters of any residency status, however, a license holder who is not an Alberta resident must enter into a contract with the holder of a valid Outfitter Permit and be accompanied by a designated guide in accordance with the Wildlife Regulation.
● This license does not authorize hunting in any location where hunting is prohibited as outlined in the Wildlife Regulation and the current Alberta Guide to Hunting Regulations.
● This license does not authorize hunting on Sunday in WMUs where the Sunday hunting of big game is prohibited.
● While hunting under the authority of this license the hunter may use any legal weapon as defined in the Wildlife Regulation. A crossbow license or bow hunting permit must be obtained by the MSL license holder should they choose to hunt with these weapons. Please note that the use of rifles during archery seasons should be undertaken with extreme caution and consideration as archery hunters may be using decoys to hunt several big game species. Please be considerate of other hunters to avoid conflicts and ensure safe hunting for all.
● A hunter is required to hold a Wildlife Certificate before hunting and, when hunting with a bow, must hold a bow hunting permit. This approval does not exempt the MSL holder from the need to follow weapons use restrictions governed by other applicable legislation and regulations, including municipal bylaws.
● This license opportunity may not be designated to a hunter or license holder via fee or remuneration (may not be sold or exchanged for value).
