Alberta, Canada is home to three of the top ten typical and non-typical deer ever taken; no other single state or province on the continent has more deer on the lists! Whitetail deer in Alberta inhabit almost every inch of the province, with extremely high potential in every region for harvesting a top-notch specimen wherever you choose to go. With this permit, early season Whitetail that are normally reserved for bowhunters can be hunted with any weapon, using any method, with treestand hunting prevailing. In the full swing of the rut in November, hunters with all weapons can take advantage of cold weather and extremely mobile deer. Many archery hunters endure long treestand and blind sits in the rut, to capitalize on bucks’ intense rutting behavior, while employing tactics such as rattling and bleating to draw in dominant bucks. Rifle hunters can enjoy hunting the expansive prairie, watching great populations of deer feed, chase and spar while they plan their stalks. Few whitetail hunters leave Alberta without seeing many intense sparring matches - truly a moment in nature that you will never forget. With the ability to hunt August 25 to August 24 the following year, the buyer of the Minister’s Special Licence (MSL) can take advantage of winter months after the general season closes, where hunting pressure on whitetails is non-existent. With no timing, weapon, or zone restrictions, this permit presents the best possible opportunity to harvest a record book whitetail deer in one of the finest regions in which they thrive.

LICENCE CONDITIONS: The holder of this antlered white-tailed deer Minister’s Special Licence is authorized to hunt one Antlered White-tailed Deer, in accordance with all provisions of the Wildlife Act and Wildlife Regulation unless exempted in the conditions below.
● This special licence is valid from August 25, 2025, to August 24, 2026, in any Wildlife Management Unit (WMU) where a white-tailed deer hunting season is identified in the current Alberta Guide to Hunting Regulations.
● This licence may be held by hunters of any residency status, however, a licence holder who is not an Alberta resident must enter into a contract with the holder of a valid Outfitter Permit and be accompanied by a designated guide in accordance with the Wildlife Regulation.
● This licence does not authorize hunting in any location where hunting is prohibited as outlined in the Wildlife Regulation and the current Alberta Guide to Hunting Regulations.
● This licence does not authorize hunting on Sunday in WMUs where the Sunday hunting of big game is prohibited.
● While hunting under the authority of this licence the hunter may use any legal weapon as defined in the Wildlife Regulation. A crossbow licence or bow hunting permit must be obtained by the MSL licence holder should they choose to hunt with these weapons. Please note that the use of rifles during archery seasons should be undertaken with extreme caution and consideration as archery hunters may be using decoys to hunt several big game species. Please be considerate of other hunters to avoid conflicts and ensure safe hunting for all.
● A hunter is required to hold a Wildlife Certificate before hunting and when hunting with a bow must hold a Bow Hunting Permit. This approval does not exempt the MSL holder from the need to follow weapons use restrictions governed by other applicable legislation and regulations, including municipal bylaws.
● This licence opportunity may not be designated to a hunter or licence holder via fee or remuneration (may not be sold or exchanged for value).
