Beautifully made underlever side by side double rifle with exposed hammers made by Alex Henry of Edinburgh, Scotland for Dudley Persee, High Sheriff of Galway County, Ireland in 1876. Rifle has blued 26" steel side by side rifled barrels with matted rib, extractors, blade front sight, and two leaf rear sight in 450 Express caliber. Rib is marked "Alex Henry Edinburgh and London Patent No 3086 / Maker to Their Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and Duke of Edinburgh". Case-hardened round body action with floral vignette engraving, back action maker marked locks, double triggers and extended tang. Fine English walnut checkered pistol grip stock with cheekpiece, horn grip cap, gold vanity plate and Bakelite butt plate, matching checkered walnut splinter forearm with Anson & Deeley latch. Comes in oak feltlined case with twenty empty shells and Donald Dallas letter and genealogy of Persee Family. LOP: 13-7/8". DAC: 1-1/4". DAH: 1-1/2". CALIBER: 450 Express. S/N: 3452. FFL STATUS: Antique.
CONDITION
98% barrel blue from old reblue with light handling marks. 10% original action case colors with most worn to a silvery patina. Wood has light coat of added oil with checkering starting to wear flat. Good bores with strong mechanics. Case has been cleaned and has reproduction case label.
