Woodcarvers John Garton and Joe Adkins from the mountains of West Virginia are donating a full-sized America bald eagle in flight. The carving has an outstretched wing span of six feet and can be mounted on a wall. This impressive basswood carving took nearly a month to complete. After the feathers were outlined on the eagle’s body, it took over 30 hours to carve the veins on the feathers. The 20 primary flight feathers were carved separately, steamed, bent into a curved position, painted and placed on the end of each wing. To date there are only five of these eagles in the country. They range from Nashville, Tennessee to Alaska and from Oklahoma City to Jackson, Wyoming. You can see more realistic wildlife carvings in booth 1034. Houston Safari Club thanks Garton Originals and Joe for this 100% donation.
