Antique Colt Transition or 2nd Model Richards Cartridge Conversion Model 1860 Army Revolver, #195511, .44 Colt CF cal., 8'' round ''streamlined'' barrel marked with the ''U.S. America'' address in one line at top, ejector rod at right (mount fills loading lever slot); rebated 6-shot round cylinder decorated with naval battle rolled scene; open-top frame is marked with two-line 1871-72 patent dates at left, has conversion plate and hammer of the Richards-Mason type, right-side hinged loading gate numbered ''5511''; brass loop trigger guard and steel backstrap, one-piece varnished walnut grips. Mfg'd ca. 1871-78, in only 9,000+/- guns, originally with blued barrel, ejector rod, cylinder and backstrap, case hardened frame and hammer, unfinished brass. Condition is very good retaining 15% thin barrel blue, especially in protected areas, traces of case colors (mostly silvered out), balance of the steel a smooth gunmetal gray, brass with light patina. Grips are smooth and sound showing light edge wear and a thin perhaps later coat of varnish, fit particularly well. Visible serial numbers match; edges and markings are crisp; cylinder engraving is light but perhaps 50% visible; action is smooth; bore is brilliant with sharp rifling and just a bit of erosion at muzzle.
