Antique Martini-Henry Enfield Breechloading IC1 Cavalry Carbine, NVSN, .455 CF cal., 21.4" round barrel, winged blade front and sliding-leaf rear sights, marked with numerous British marks including "(crown)/V.R./1.P.", "(crown)/V.R./(crossed swords)/2.P.", "(crown)/E/6", "(star)" and "(facing broad arrows)" (sold out of service mark) in area of raised breech; flat-side receiver is marked "(large crown)/V.R./Enfield/1887/(crown/broad arrow)/I.C.1.", "2" and "(crown)/BF" at right, has dropping breechblock operated by 5.5" underlever marked "(broad arrow)/WD/(crown)/E/29"; steel fittings include trigger guard marked "(crown)/E/69", straight buttplate marked "(broad arrow)/WD/(crown)/E", 2 clamping bands, 6" nosecap retaining the button-tip ramrod. Oil-finished 2-pc. English walnut fullstock has right-side 1" brass roundel marked "6.04/M/5Krr/12", .75" impressed roundel marked "Birmingham 1894" surrounding "(broad arrow)/WD", and "1/2", "(facing broad arrows)", "MCBB/97". Mfg'd ca. 1887. Condition is good retaining traces of blue and scattered oxidation and discoloration over gray gunmetal, fine edges and markings. Stocks are sound showing rather heavy age and military use marks, a thru-hole 4" ahead of receiver, generally good markings and perhaps added finish. Action is strong and crisp, bore is bright showing 2" light erosion at muzzle and sharp polygonal rifling. Est.: $700-$900. (Antique)
