Antique Civil War Remington New Model Army Percussion Revolver, #123768, .44 cal., blued 8'' octagonal barrel with screw-in blade front sight, is marked with the maker's name, address, 1858 patent date and ''New Model'' on top flat, ''D'' and ''R'' on left/right flats respectively; matching hinged loading lever; plain blued round 6-shot cylinder has safety notches at rear; blued-steel solid frame marked ''R'' on both sides at breech, has a long top sighting groove and integral grip straps; brass trigger guard marked ''D'' at front screw; two-piece oil-stained walnut grips with ''BH'' initials (likely of U.S. inspector Benjamin Hannis) within a rectangular cartouche on left panel. Mfg'd ca. 1863-75. Condition is near fine. Blued surfaces retain perhaps 50% deep black-blue with sharp markings and edges and the scattered marks and light erosion expected of a military arm, brass with light patina. Grips are smooth and solid with a sharp inspector's cartouche. Action is strong and crisp; bore is brilliant with sharp rifling. Est.: $900-$1,200. (Antique)
