Antique Winchester Second Model 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine
Made by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1868. Gun is a Second Model and is fitted with a 20" round blued barrel with integral blade band front sight and correct rear two position flip sight. Barrel has remnants of Henry and King's Patent markings. Gun Metal brass Second Model frame with blued saddle ring, lever, hammer and loading gate. Carbine still retains original rimfire bolt. Carbine was serial numbered on left lower tang, but due to a repair it is not visible. Second Model stock with illegible serial number in top tang channel. Butt stock is marked "15871" on butt in ink with brass trap butt plate stamped "15871". Walnut forearm with blued barrel band and full blued tubular magazine. CALIBER: 44 Henry. S/N: 15871. FFL STATUS: Antique.
CONDITION
Overall good as restored with 98% reapplied barrel blue, unpolished brass frame with tang repair and refinished sanded stock. Stock is cracked at comb. Barrel is correctly marked and has good rifling (possible replacement?). Functioning mechanics with lower tang screw missing. Gun still has a great look to it.
