Hunt Writeup: The Project
This year, the Texas Bighorn Society has teamed up with the Eastern Chapter of the Wild Sheep Foundation to fund critical research and management initiatives surrounding the impact of Aoudad in the proliferation of Mycoplasma Ovipneumoniae (MOVI) in Desert Bighorn Sheep. It is well known that our native Desert Sheep share range with the introduced Aoudad throughout Texas and understanding the impact that Aoudad are having on wild sheep is paramount. Moreover, we have witnessed the Aoudad population explode in recent history due to the hardy nature of the species which is driving our native sheep to less desirable habitat. Through this research, sustainable management plans will be developed and implemented in cooperation with Texas’ private landowners and public land alike.
The Package
To fund this initiative, the Texas Bighorn Society is generously donating an Aoudad hunt with High West Outfitters with none other than Jim Breck Bean. Through Jim’s outfit you will have access to private ranches with over 1,500,000 acres of hunting paradise in the Trans Pecosregion of west Texas! The difficulty of the hunt can be determined by the winning bidder as High West Outfitters has everything from tough and rugged to laid back and relaxed opportunities. This rifle hunt may be taken from August 2023 through April 2024. The hunt is a 3 ½ day package with 4 nights of lodging and meals with full guide service, field care of the animal and taxidermy preparation and drop off.
