Austrian Reverse Lock Percussion Schuetzen Rifle by Ignaz Fischer
.50 cal, 32 3/4'' octagon barrel with slightly swamped muzzle and a bright excellent bore. The barrel of this fine Austrian schuetzen rifle retains perhaps 65-70% original bright blue flaking overall to a pleasant gray-brown patina showing some sparse light oxidation speckling. The top flat shows light matting and the barrels has lovely gold line inlays at the breech and maker's name inlaid in fancy gold script. Both rear and front sights have heavy tunnel covers, the rear engraved with a prominent female-faced sun ray motif. The lockplate also shows maker's name in gold and is a pleasant smoky gray case-hardened patina and is embellished in full coverage with excellent quality flowing foliate motifs and a very handsome detailed gryphon at the rear. The lock is equipped with a generous cap splash shield and the fancy finger groove triggerguard shows remnants of original bright blue flaking to gray-brown patina. The walnut halfstock remains in very fine condition showing some scattered light dings and handling marks, a 2'' flexing crack at the left edge of the forend tip and smaller crack on the left side near the toe of the stock. The stock features a foliate carved schnabel, forend checkering, generous and deep left-side cheekpiece with accenting ridge at rear, stippled and foliate carved right-side thumb rest, raised foliate carved bulb behind the rear triggerguard arm and light bordering motifs. The iron buttplate is a very wide and heavy affair with wide foliate motifs along the sides. The rifle is sighted with an adjustable peep tang sight, fine v-notch rear and bead-on-post front. The triggerguard is equipped with a finger stop that complements the very fine hair firing trigger. The rear trigger is a set and they will require mechanical attention as the hammer does not drop appropriately. This is a lovely rifle from an excellent quality Vienna maker who was favored by the Imperial Hofgewehrkammer. (13D11804-17) {ANTIQUE} [Dale Beeks Collection] (3500/5000)
