1883 vintage British military lever-operated breech loading single shot rifle, rebuilt in Cairo and converted to .303, Egypt circa 1906 at the British controlled Citadel arsenal. Features a blued finish, 30" barrel, raised blade front sight, flip-up ladder style rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters, single barrel band, metal forend cap, bayonet lug, smooth trigger, cocked indicator, full-length smooth wood forend and straight grip shoulder stock with metal buttplate. The right side of the receiver is marked '[crown]/V.R/BSA & M.C. (Birmingham Small Arms and Metal Company)/1883/[crown]" and the left side is marked "[star & crescent]/CITADEL/1906." The barrel is stamped "E" denoting Enfield rifling as opposed to Metford rifling which wore too quickly, with Egyptian writing behind it. The majority of the metal surfaces on the barrel display bare metal from handling wear with dull bluing found on the receiver & in small quantities on the barrel around the rear sight. Action performs well, the bore is good with strong rifling and the wood stocks have minor loss/cracks to the the forend near the receiver and the buttstock is a little loose with some hairline cracks on the wrist where it meets the receiver.
Condition is NRA Very Good. Antique Firearm.
