MODEL NO. 1 MK1 DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER WITH HOLSTER. Cal. 455. S# 539. Bbl. 5". Despite Colt and Smith & Wesson's significant contribution to small arms production for the British military during WWI, Britain still faced a significant shortage in firearms due to a combination of attrition and the armament of newly trained units. To compensate, Britain turned to a Spanish firearms consortium, which consisted of three large Spanish mfgs. This example, mfg. by Garate, Anitua y Cia is marked "MANUFACTURA ESPECIAL DE REVOLVERS/ GARATE ANITUA Y CIA - EIBER (ESPANA)" over the top of the right. Right side of the frame is marked with Garate, Anitua's trademark logo. Front grip strap is numbered "539," with "446" on the rear grip strap. Frame, cyl., and bbl. exhibit various British proofs. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the trigger, hammer, and bbl. latch, which exhibit a case color-hardened finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece "GAC" monogram checkered black hard rubber grips. Half-moon blade front sight with notch rear sight. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: an unmarked, period-modified brown leather holster. CONDITION: Metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear and thinning, scattered marks from handling and storage, as well as some scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation overall. Case color-hardened parts show some areas of wear and fading, which show through to a gray patina. Mirror bore, retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips show some scattered superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. (24-6982/MLW). CURIO. $300-400.
