SN: P39888. WW2 British 1944 dated bolt action sniper rifle with No. 32 Mk III scope and mount. Used from WW2 into the early 1960's until they were replaced by the L42 series sniper rifles. The left butt-socket is marked 'm47 C, England 1944 P39888 TR, the left receiver side wall is marked 'T'. The sniper scope is marked 'Tel. Stg. No.32 MkIII OS. 2039 A. C&H No 24391/broad arrow. There is a "B' stenciled in blue paint beneath this, and red painted "W" above, a lower adjustment screw is also painted red.. The scope has the standard British post and cross hair reticle pattern, and the brown leather lens cover. The mount is marked 'N34936". The rings are stamped 'N337', 'N338'. The underside of the buttstock is stamped with proofs and acceptance marks. The top flat of the wrist is stamped with scope number '20153'. The underside of the fore stock is stamped with matching serial number, with various proofs and Broad Arrow. Matching serial number on the bolt handle, & magazine. Safety lever stamped M/47C. The comb is fitted with a wood cheekpiece secured with two wood screws. 10 rd magazine, aluminum buttplate with trapdoor. Absolutely correct, rifles came to Holland & Holland after giving better than average zeroing groups after test firing at the B.S.A and Maltby factories, then earmarked as possible sniper rifles by having the 'TR' stamp. Once it passed the final test it was stamped with the 'T'", No 'S51 on the underside of the buttstock, Holland & Holland's wartime code. The metal fore cap is marked VNS (Maker-Viners). The bore is excellent/.bright, action is crisp/tight, the matte black/blue finish is very good overall, with some scratches/edge wear, and the wood is very good with a few very minor dings, the cheek piece has some wear/loss. Some minor edge wear/scuffs on the scope, very clear optics. Comes with the No.15 Mk I green painted wood transit chest with broken leather carrying straps, labels, metal No. 8 scope case with carrying strap.
