WITH HOLSTER. Cal. 12 Ga. S# 3241 found on front surface of receiver when folded. A unique shotgun designed for use by police and marshals, as well as prison and bank guards. Invented by Andrew Burgess, small quantities were manufactured from 1892-1899 when the company was purchased by Winchester. Legendary western lawman, Pat Garrett is best known for killing Billy the Kid in Lincoln County, NM. Garrett was allegedly carrying his Burgess folding shotgun when gunned down on Feb. 29, 1908 in Las Cruces, NM. An iron sleeve is slid rearward over the wrist of the stock to cycle the action. Action is folded by lifting a release lever over the breech section that allows the barrel assembly to slide downward and fold. Burgess advertising claimed it “can be drawn from holster and shot six times in three seconds”. No. 2 folding gun w/ steel 19 1/2" bbl. having a pinned blade front sight. Six shot tubular mag. Breech block marked "BURGESS GUN CO. / BUFFALO, N.Y. U.S.A." Receiver floorplate has 3 line patent markings ending w/ the date of "Aug. 21, 92". Blue finish. Straight grip walnut stock w/ Burgess marked hard rubber buttplate. Steel slide sleeve has checkered gripping surfaces w/ an attached checkered walnut pistol grip. Steel capped forearm has wrap around checkering. WEIGHT: 6 lbs. 10.9 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: original russet leather belt holster is in fair to good condition showing wear & handling marks w/ one partially torn belt loop. Also includes a copy of the Burgess "Folding Gun" instructions & price list dated 1895. CONDITION: antique very fine. Barrel & action retain over 75% lightly faded original blue showing carry & edge wear w/ scattered sm. scratches & marks. Original wood finish shows moderate wear w/ scratches, sm. dents & marks. Sound, functioning mechanics. Bore is generally bright, showing a few sm. spots of very light pitting. (01-20200/DS). ANTIQUE. $7,000-10,000.
