Deep Wood Lodge, Cains River. Near Doaktown, New Brunswick.
Unique large, classic and original Canadian Atlantic Salmon, grouse and woodcock fishing and hunting lodge coming available for the first time in almost 30 years. Built in 1918 and purchased by the current owners in 1995, it was then completely refurbished to its original condition, and it has been maintained as such since, including some substantial log replacements in 2020.
The property is located on approximately 7 1/2 acres of very private wooded land 13 miles outside of Doaktown N.B., four miles from the main road, situated high on a bluff above a turn in the Cains River, a tributary to the nearby Miramichi River. Included are the main lodge, plus a second guide or guest cottage complete with a full kitchen. A large storage/generator shed behind the lodge has a workshop and two generators, plus attached dog kennels. It has both electric generator power and propane gas lighting and appliances.
The large main lodge room includes a full kitchen with an eating/drinking counter and stools, as well as a dining table for eight, storage cabinets and room for additional furniture.
There are two bedrooms, on either side of the main room for two people each. One larger bedroom room behind the kitchen is suitable for 2-4 additional guests.
Off the main room is another huge den room with a large river stone wood burning fireplace, couches, chairs and a pool table. The 52 in moose head over the fireplace was harvested just down the lodge road by a member. Off the back of the den is a covered porch facing the river, which has seen much use of rocking chairs and cigars and various whiskies.
In addition, the guide/guest building has two bedrooms and a loft that would easily sleep another four guests. It also faces the river.
The winning bidder will be buying the buildings and associated infrastructure and have an evergreen Leasehold title to the three-hectare property, which is more than 105 years old and renews each 10 years. Cost of per year for the lease is $1400.
Built in 1918, there have been only a handful of private owners since that time. A true personal lodge, not a cabin, this property is one of a kind. As an insight to its beauty and character, the all-time baseball great Ted Williams spent part of many years of his Atlantic Salmon fishing career at Deep Wood, which was owned by one of his good friends. Photos of Ted at the kitchen bar and around the lodge can be included in the purchase if desired.
For all those interested, there will be a viewing period at the lodge from July 15th through July 31st, 2023.
