An original Maurice L. Bower (1889 - 1980) illustration for the 1954 issue of Boy's Life Magazine and the original publication.
Maurice Bower was a renowned artist for his famous magazine cover illustrations on the "Saturday Evening Post, House and Garden, Nos Loisirs, TV Guide and American Weekly”, just to name a few. This auction item is the original Maurice Bower, framed oil on canvas and the original Boy's life Magazine from 1954, which he was under contract for. The magazine is incased in plastic with the original address label. On the cover has a pair of mountain lions with one looking down on big horn sheep while the painting has the sheep in hunters red/orange. The story goes that the painting was signed, indicating that it was finished with the rams and there was a last-minute change to go from rams to hunters. Maurice started to change the finished painting but was stopped due to the fast-approaching publication date. Therefore, Boy's Life had to go with the rams and the painting remained unchanged. Hence, adding to its value.
