Brown & Hirth Percussion Target Rifle from T.J. Cooper Collection
Half-stock percussion heavy target rifle referred to as a "slug" rifle made by Brown & Hirth of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, circa 1887. Rifle originally belonged to T.J. Cooper and was used to win the Cup of the Eastern Gun Collector's Association in 1941 and 1942. Rifle is pictured on Page 98 & 99 of Edith Cooper's book "The Kentucky Rifle and Me". Rifle measures 54" overall with a heavy 37-1/2" octagon rifled target barrel in 45 caliber. Barrel is turned for a false muzzle with Globe front sight and a Marble's tang sight. Barrel is marked "Brown & Hirth Pittsburgh, Pa/STANDARD STEEL" with unknown initials "ADC.". Commercial percussion lock with double set trigger control. Walnut half-stock with cheekpiece and German silver hardware. Rifle comes with original striped hardwood rod and original "Pickett" style bullet mold and swaging tool. J.T. Livengood Collection. CALIBER: 45. FFL STATUS: Antique.
CONDITION
Overall good with metal turning plum. Wood has traces of original finish with repair at breech and light handling marks. Good bore and mechanics. Tools are in good condition.
