DONATION: Here’s a chance to own a piece of wild-sheep conservation history! A true one-of-one rifle with 100% of the funds raised going toward the next sheep conservation initiative in a partnership between Wild Sheep Foundation and the Cabela Family Foundation.
In 2024, WSF and CFF embarked on their first initiative together for wild sheep in British Columbia through local assistance by the Tahltan First Nation. The groups set out in the dead of winter to capture, research, sample and place collars on a herd of Stone’s sheep in the Spatsizi River area. It has been almost 60 years since the world-renowned Canadian Biologist, Valerius Geist, set out to research Stone’s sheep in this exact area. This work was long overdue, and we couldn’t be more proud of it.
With changing times and increased pressure, the need arose for someone to reignite the conservation flame. Through the help of Spatsizi River Outfitters and local veterinarians/biologists, we were able to pull off an incredible project– sampling and collaring over 40 Stone Sheep in five days. The entire initiative was documented by the Cabela Family Foundation and then turned into an episode of their hit series, “Hard Truths of Conservation”, which aired on the History Channel. Telling this story to the world is important because it illustrates just how much hunters care about the wild creatures and natural ecosystems they call home.
Hunting revenue and funds raised for conservation can support scientific research and monitoring programs to better understand Stone’s sheep populations, behaviors, and habitat. The information from this initiative will be crucial for making informed management decisions and implementing effective conservation strategies for the preservation of the species.
Now, let’s talk about this rifle. The good folks at Gunwerks have really outdone themselves, producing a rifle that is in a league of its own. Based off their ClymR platform, this rifle was designed to be the ultimate rifle for mountain hunting. Designed perfectly to balance lightweight and long-range shooting capability, it’s the ideal choice for packability and performance on the mountain. It’s chambered in 7mm PRC and is topped with a Leupold Mark V scope. Where this rifle gets really special is in the customization and detailed engraving. Complete with it’s own unique engraving/serial number, custom case, custom leather sling from Teton Leather Company and a custom Montana Knife Company knife, this is the complete package for someone who wants to make meaningful difference in conservation, all while owning a true one-of-one rifle.
