CASED INSCRIBED COLT MODEL 1849 REVOLVER, CAPT.
WILLIAM DOLAN, MISSOURI. Cal. 31. S# 203010. Bbl. 4" oct. w/ 2 line Hartford address. This revolver was made early in 1862 & has professional script inscription: “William Dolan” on backstrap. Revolver has seen use but has survived complete & matching w/ Colt casing & holster made from repurposed thin glove leather using lead finial popular on Confederate accouterments. The original Colt casing was client’s afterthought to display a favorite pistol. From the estate there is a tag that states revolver w/ holster IDed to Capt. William Dolan (1832-1920). There are over 50 William Dolan’s who served in the Civil War but there is only one officer North or South & that is William Dolan of the Confederate 11th Missouri infantry which tag says was captured July 4, 1863 at Helena Arkansas & taken to Johnson’s Island prison camp. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: original Colt casing w/ green velvet lining, w/ flask, mold, caps & balls. CONDITION: revolver is good overall, matching serial numbers found on bbl., frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cyl., loading arm & wedge. Markings are all discernible w/ about half of the rolled cyl. scene w/ pitting. Hammer screw & wedge screw are replaced. Mechanically functional w/ discernible rifled bore. Casing & accessories are all good, flask is reproduction, baize lining has typical scuffing & wear. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19223/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-2,500.
