CHINESE UNDER-FOLDING POLYTECH AKS RIFLE.

Cal. 7.62x39mm. S# 85F-556-01320. Bbl. 16”. The ultimate in 1980s gun culture were the Chinese mfg. AK47 variants that were once so plentiful & inexpensive. The highest quality & most sought after variants were mfg. by Polytech & imported in numerous configurations. As their popularity increased in the United States w/ shooters & collectors & the availability of the once rare 7.62x39mm ammunition became available, we were faced w/ the first of numerous pieces of legislation dealing w/ the propaganda push of the day & firearms w/ similar attributes were branded “assault weapons” & eventually heavily restricted. One of the first new restrictions regarding the semi automatic versions to go into effect was mandated by executive order w/out legislative involvement & banned the importation of guns that didn’t qualify as having a sporting purpose. This particular example is a textbook piece w/ its dark brown hardwood furniture. One of the most noticeable & popular functional features is the bottom folding metal stock that was designed to completely fold over & around a loaded 30 rd. mag. Stamped receiver. Hooded front sight post & rear sight adj. in elevation to 800m. Safety selector on right side of receiver. Complete w/ its bayonet lug, threaded bbl. & slanted muzzle brake. Left side of receiver stamped; "MOD. AKS / 7.62X39 / SEMI-AUTO / POLY TECH INC. / BEIJING, CHINA". Bottom of receiver below front trunnion marked; "IMPORTED BY / KENG'S FIREARM / SPECIALTY / ATLANTA, GA". Currently sporting green canvas sling. MAGS: 1 - 30 rd. factory. CONDITION: all outward appearances indicate some use w/ proper maintenance. Finish coverage is complete & consistent w/ majority of thinning on receiver in areas of mechanical intervention. Stock locks correctly in both folded & extended positions. Forend has typical impressions but no obvious structural problems. This cataloger believes that this rifle might have been originally imported as chambered in 5.56x45mm and later rebarreled to 7.62x39mm. Evidence of this are some light machine marks over the original caliber designation where it appears it was milled off and remarked. Also, the serial number includes a "556" in it, possibly indicating the same. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. Bore is shiny w/ strong rifling. . (22-3938/JZ). MODERN. $1,800-2,500.
