MODEL 1849 NAVAL MUSKET. Cal. 74. NSN. Left side of 37" bbl. marked "CITY / PHILADA" over "A WURFFLEIN" retailer mark; procured to defend against Confederate invasion early in the American Civil War. Prussian eagle on percussion lock also marked "SUHL / S&C" & naval anchor. Rifle is proofed w/ crown "Kr", "W", & "S". 3 Band Walnut stock w/ brass bbl. bands, sideplate, triggerguard. Iron buttplate & sling swivels. Left ear of stock marked "EG" w/ Prussian Eagle & naval anchor. "45" Stamped in front of trigger guard. "420" stamped on right side buttstock. CONDITION: iron parts have gray/brown patina appearance w/ marks, scratches & heavily pitting around bolster. Brass has a bright appearance starting to acquire patina w/ dents. Sanded & refinished stock has lightly worn markings, mildew staining on buttstock, wood erosion around lock, moderate gouges & missing pieces of wood along ramrod channel. Dark pitted bore.
