Possibly Confederate. The pinned tag inside naval flat cap & associated oral provenance (written on sticky note) say that C. Edward Seaman born in Norway (on tag, records say Sweden) “hat worn by Uncle Edward Sea…. / while serving in the volunteers / during the war”. C. E. Seaman was transferred to CSN April 14, 1862 from 1st Florida Infantry. Naval flat cap is blue wool, black & white plaid silk liner, 1.25” tarred cloth sweatband, raw cotton padding, all hand sewn, brass number “2” attached to face, wool covered 2” wood button on crown. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copy of CE Seaman’s national archive records in 1st FL & CSN. CONDITION: very good overall, complete & original, scattered sm. moth holes in body, stained & soiled, silk lining shattered at sides but complete. (02-17515/JS). $3,000-5,000.
